Using Windows 2000 and XP Network Places

Microsoft Windows 2000 and XP provide a program that enables you to set up a "network place" to which you can FTP files.

To create a Network Place:

1. In Windows, right-click the Start button and select Explore.
2. Select My Network Places. The Add Network Place icon displays in the right pane.

   

3. Double-click Add Network Place to launch the Wizard.

   

4. Enter your domain name in the following format:
   
   

   http://www.[domainname.com]
   

   If it has been less than 72 hours since you set up your account, you may need to use your temporary URL instead of your domain name. You can find this by logging into SiteControl.

   
   

5. Click Next. The Enter Network Password dialog box appears.

   

6. Enter your user name and password. This is either the Master User name and password for your domain or the user name and password for your FTP account set up in SiteControl. Then, click Next.
7. On the final page of the Wizard, enter the name for this Network Place. This name is for descriptive purposes only.

   

8. Click Finish. The new Network Place appears in the right pane of the Explorer window.

   

9. To access your Web directory, double-click the Network Place you just created and then enter your user name and password. Your directories and files display in the Explorer window.
