Editing a quiz


InterActive's Quiz manager enables you to create an online quiz, customize the look and feel of your quiz and configure a number of different options that control its functionality and how visitors interact with it.

Your quiz can include a number of standard fields and up to 10 different questions. Quiz takers can choose from up to 5 possible answers for each question. You can also add a tie-breaker question to your quiz.

If you are using Basic InterActives, some of the following fields and controls may not be available to you. To have access to these extra feature, you can upgrade to Advanced InterActives.

 

If you edit a quiz that you have embedded in your Web page, you must update the code in your page's HTML and upload the new version of the page for the changes to take effect.

 

To edit a quiz:

On the InterActives main page, click Edit next to the quiz you want to configure. The Quiz properties main page displays.

On the properties page, click Edit next to the following sections to configure the specific properties. For detailed information on each field in a section, click the appropriate link below.

When you have finished editing the quiz properties click Save.


Look and Feel

Use the following options and controls to customize the look and feel of your quiz. When you are finished, click Save to update your quiz code.

General appearance

 

Quiz title

The title of the quiz.

Show title at top of quiz

Displays the quiz title at the top of the quiz.

Welcome text

Introductory text to display before the questions. For example, you might provide special instructions for visitors taking the quiz.

Quiz width

The width of the quiz in pixels.

Align the quiz

Controls how the quiz is aligned in the browser window.

Font settings

These options enable you to customize the appearance of text in the quiz.

Title font

If you selected to show the title at the top of the quiz (see General appearance above), input the fonts you want to use. To specify multiple fonts, separate fonts with a comma. Do not include spaces before or after the comma. Be sure to use a valid HTML font name, such as Verdana or Arial.

Title font size

The size of the font used to display the quiz title.

Body font

The font to use for body text in the quiz. To specify multiple fonts, separate fonts with a comma. Do not include spaces before or after the comma. Be sure to use a valid HTML font name, such as Verdana or Arial.

Body font size

The size of the font used to display body text.

Enable CSS

Enables you to associate a cascading style sheet (CSS) with this quiz. If you select this option, be sure to input the compete URL to the style sheet.

Address to CSS file

The complete URL to the style sheet you want to associate with the quiz.

Home page information

These options control how links to and from your Web site operate.

Home page address

The complete URL to the Web page you want to direct your visitors back to when they are finished with the quiz.

Home page link text

The text for the link that will take your visitors to the Web page you specified in the Home page address field.

If you are using frames, leave this field blank.

Layout settings

These options control the overall layout of the quiz.

Text before quiz

The text to display at the top of the page before the quiz.

Text after quiz

The text to display at the bottom of the page after the quiz.

Colors

These options control the colors and background image used in the quiz. You can specify colors by entering a hex number, a valid HTML color name or by using the color picker to select a color from a palette.

Header color

The color of the quiz title that displays at the top of the page.

Font color

The color for the text in the quiz.

Link color

The color for links.

Visited link color

The color for links a visitor has already clicked.

Active link color

The color for links that are active (being clicked).

Background color

The color for the background of the quiz.

Background image address

The complete URL for an image to use as a background for your quiz.

Fixed background

Controls whether the image stays fixed in its location (Yes) or whether it moves with the page when visitors scroll (No).

 

Fields

The following fields and controls enable you to specify what additional fields to include in your quiz. These are in addition to the actual quiz questions.

Standard fields

These options enable you to customize the standard quiz fields.

Place the fields

If you select to use one or more of the standard field, specifies whether they appear above or below the quiz questions.

Ask for name

Creates a name field. This field is required if you are using the high-score table. For more information, see Enable high score table below.

Ask for email

Creates an email field. This field is required if you are using the high score table. For more information, see Enable high score table below.

Extra fields

These options enable you to add your own fields to the quiz form.

Place extra fields

Specifies whether the fields appear above or below the quiz questions.

Ask for

The label that displays to the left of the field.

Field width

Specifies the maximum number of characters the user can enter in one line.

Field height

Specifies the number of lines the user can enter.

Tie-breaking questions

These controls enable you to add additional questions to be used in the event of a tie. Tie-breaking questions requires visitors to type the answers.

Enable tie-breaking question

Presents quiz takers with an extra question in the event of a tie.

The text to display after the tie-breaking questions.

 


Results page

These fields enable you to control how quiz results are displayed to quiz takers. When you are finished, click Save to update the quiz code.

Standard results page

These options enable you to control what information displays to the quiz takers when they are finished with the quiz.

Send email notification

Specifies whether or not to send an email notification to the specified address when users complete a quiz.

Send notification to email

The email address to which the notification is sent.

Email notification from name

The name that displays in the From: field on the email notification.

Email notification from email address

The email address from which the email notification is sent. If the recipient replies to the email notification, this is the address to which replies are sent.

Let user see his/her score

Enables the quiz taker to see his or her score.

Let user know the correct answers

Displays the correct answers for the question.

Show how many have taken quiz

Displays the number of people who have taken the quiz.

Thank you text

Displays a custom message to the users.

Results-based commenting

These controls enable you to display custom messages to test takers based on their scores. For example, you can display a "Congratulations!" message to people with perfect scores or display a "Try harder next time" message to those who score poorly.

You can create up to four custom comments.

Allow results-based comments

Enables results-based comments.

Interval starts at ? points

The score that marks the beginning of the first interval. For example, if your quiz has 15 questions, you might set up three intervals with the first interval starting at 10 and ending with 15, the second interval starting at 5 and ending at 9, and so forth.

Interval ends at ? points

The score that marks the beginning of the first interval. For example, if your quiz has 15 questions, you might set up three intervals with the first interval starting at 10 and ending with 15, the second interval starting at 5 and ending at 9, and so forth.

Text for this interval

The text you want to displays to quiz takers whose score falls within this interval.

Enable high score table

When enabled, this feature displays the top quiz scores.

 

In order to use this feature, you MUST enable the standard name and email fields. For more information, see Fields.
