Editing a Poll


InterActive's Guestbook manager enables you to create your poll question and possible answers, customize the look and feel of your poll and configure a number of different options that control its functionality.

If you are using Basic InterActives, some of the following fields and controls may not be available to you. To have access to these extra feature, you can upgrade to Advanced InterActives.

 

If you edit a poll that you have embedded in your Web page, you must update the code in your page's HTML and upload the new version of the page for the changes to take effect.

 

To edit a poll:

On the InterActive's main page, click Edit next to the poll you want to configure. The Poll main page displays.

On the properties page, click Edit next to the following sections to configure the specific properties. For detailed information on each field in a section, click the appropriate link below.

When you have finished editing the quiz properties click Save.


Look and Feel

Use the following options and controls to customize the look and feel of your poll. When you are finished, click Save to update your poll code.

 

Field or Control

Description

General appearance

 

Poll title

The title of your poll. The name you assigned the poll when you created it is used by default.

Poll type

The type of control to use for selecting answers.

Pop-up type

Determines how the poll displays to your visitors.

Width of user vote pop-up

The width of the user vote pop-up box in pixels.

Height of user vote pop-up

The height of the user vote pop-up box in pixels.

Border size

The size of the border around the poll in pixels.

Poll width

The width of the poll in pixels.

Width graph page

The width of the page that displays the voting results in pixels.

Layout settings

These options enable you to insert custom text before and after the poll.

Text before poll

The text to appear at the top of the page before the poll.

Text after poll

The text to appear at the bottom of the page after the poll.

Home page information

These options control how links to and from your Web site operate.

Home page address

The complete URL to the Web page you want to direct your visitors back to when they are finished with the guestbook.

Home page link text

The text for the link that will take your visitors to the Web page you specified in the Home page address field.

If you are using frames, leave this field blank.

Colors

These options control the colors and background image used in the poll. You can specify colors by entering a hex number, a valid HTML color name or by using the color picker to select a color from a palette.

Title background color

The color of the background of the title area.

Title text color

The color of the title text.

Page background color

The background color of the page.

Poll background color

The background color of the poll.

Poll text color

The color of the text of the poll.

Link color

The color for links.

Background image address

The complete URL for an image to use as a background for your poll.

 


Graph Images

These options enable you to customize the graph that displays poll results after a visitor submits his or her vote. For each possible answer, you can configure the following options. Click Save when you are finished to update the poll code.

To use one of the default images, select the image to use. To preview the image, click Save.

To use your own image, enter the complete URL to the image.

Image height

The height of the image in pixels.

Image width

The width of the image in pixels.

Questions

These controls enable you to specify the subject of your poll.

Poll question

The question visitors are voting on.

Answers

These controls enable you to specify the possible answers visitors can select from.

Answer

A possible answer to the poll question.

Number of votes

The number of votes this answer has received so far. You can change this value and the results visitors see will be modified accordingly.

 


Vote Blocking

These options enable you to control when visitors can vote on the poll. For example, you can prevent visitors from voting multiple times. You can track and block votes by IP address or by using cookies. Use the Vote blocking time-out field to clear blocking and enable a user to vote again after a specified amount of time has elapsed. You can also set a time limit for a poll and have the poll automatically shut down at a specified date and time.

Prevent visitor from voting multiple times by tracking IP addresses.

Block by using cookies

Prevent visitors from voting multiple times by checking for cookies.

Vote blocking time-out

The number of minutes that must elapse before blocking is removed and the visitor can vote again.

Reset vote blocking

 

Reset

Click this button to reset the vote blocking timeout and enable visitors to who have previously voted to vote again.

Poll time limit

These options enable you to set prevent users from voting on the poll after a specified time.

Time limited poll

Specifies whether poll is open for a limited amount of time.

Poll expires

The date and time when the poll expires.

Text when poll is closed

The text to display once the poll has expired.
